At the age of 11, he was diagnosed with a growth hormone deficiency. His father couldn't afford to pay the huge sum needed for his treatment. FC Barcelona stepped up to pay all the money for the treatment, on a condition that Messi would immediately join Barca’s youth academy once he is fit to play.
From a kid at the club’s academy,

To the team's captain and an all-time legend in Barca’s history.
In today's football world, where every now and then the record for highest transfer fee is broken, the best in the world chooses to stay loyal to his childhood club that made his dream of playing football come true.
