The oceans around the world have long been turned into a gigantic dump and all that garbage is talking is grievous toll on marine ecosystem .
One way to understand the magnitude of the problem would be to look at the amount of trash collected from beaches and waterways across the globe over a 24-hour period, Which is what the international coastal Cleanup initiative did.

A look at the harmful haul.....
TRASH HAUL > 9.2m kg Total weight of trash collected over 24 hours along ocean sides and water bodies worldwide
28km length of the towel that could be created with rope discarded on beaches
243km Approximate length that drinking straws gathered from beaches would stretch
5 Standard swimming pools Space that plastic bottles found on beaches would fill
5 marathons Length that cigarette butts collected from beaches would stretch laid end to end (olympic marathon =42.195km)

It's Not Only The Small Stuff Either.....
Activists in Bermuda Found a 6 -seater golf cart in a beach while those in finland retrieved a full-sized car. That's not to mention a washing machine in Brunei and a whole couch in Jamaica.
AN ALARMING SITUATION
8M metric tonnes:Total amount of plastic entering the ocean from land every year
>Microplastics affect freshwater and even land-based ecosystems with large amounts of these found in rivers as well as in soil ,Having been spread through house hold and industrial composting
>Linked with disease on coral reefs , Microplastics also hamper reproduction and population growth rate in zooplankton -animals that from base of ocean food chain
What is the great pacific Garbage Patch?

Formally known as the north pacific Subtropical Gyre,it is the world largest collection of Floating Trash ,lying between Hawaii and California .Its size is said to be "Larger Than Texas"
1.8 Trillion : Estimated Number Of pieces of plastic in the patch
79K metric tonnes : Estimated weight of plastics in the patch, most of it abandoned fishing gear
